Three years after retiring from his job as a foreman in a coal mine, a man is sitting on a park bench. He’s remembering the last time he went underground. His nostalgic narration, in a Silesian dialect, is overlaid with images of his last inspection of the mine. The film captures his particular attachment to the mine: a longing, an ambiguous feeling of fear and respect. The realization that mining is the only thing he knows reinforces his present idleness.
